Dentistry & Optometry
Dentistry (DDS or DMD)
Dentists prevent, diagnose, and treat problems affecting the teeth, gums, tongue, lips and jaws. Training requires 4 years after the undergraduate degree. Dentists may continue their education after dental school to enter specialty areas such as orthodontics or endodontics.

Special note on IU School of Dental Medicine requirements: IU Dental does not accept AP, Dual Credit, or Community College courses for their science prerequisite courses. Community college social science prerequisites are permitted.

Optometry (OD)
Doctors of Optometry examine, diagnose, treat, and manage disease and disorders of the visual system and eye. They provide routine eye exams and fit patients for corrective lenses and treat other eye problems including glaucoma and visual skill problems. Optometry programs require 4 years after undergraduate education.
